Tips & Recommendations

I traveled to Mexico during a five-day solo trip in 2022. While I was based in Cancún at the Mayan Monkey Hostel, I had the opportunity to visit Isla de Mujeres, Tulum, and Chichen Itza.

Cabo San Lucas: resort city on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula; water activities; nightlife

Cancun: resort city; nightlife; beaches; proximity to Isla Mujeres & Chichen Itza

Guadalajara: tequila; mariachi music; archit4ecture

Mexico City: capital of Mexico; culture capital; Templo Mayor (Aztec temple); Cathedral; foodies heaven

Oaxaca: cultural activities; art scene; architecture; Hierve el Agua thermal spring

Puebla: culinary history; Baroque architecture; UN World Heritage Site

Chilaquiles: fried corn tortilla chips simmered in broth with chicken & eggs
Pazole: traditional red soup with onions, chili peppers, meat, etc.

Elote: Mexican corn on the cob with cream

Chiles en nogada: Chiles stuffed with picadillo, pomegranate seeds, and parsley

Churros: Fried dough with sugar and toppings (shown on right)
